Two Die at Moldovan Border as Russia-Ukraine Drone War Intensifies

In Short: Two people died when Russian drones hit a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The border link between Ukraine and Moldova has been closed following an attack, with two people killed, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The incident occurred at the Starokozache crossing, which is about 500km south of Kyiv.
Moldova has increasingly found itself caught up in the conflict, with 17 drones striking Moldovan territory in August alone, more than during the whole of last year, according to Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.
In the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, a woman was killed and 14 people, including two children, were injured after a Russian drone hit a nine-storey residential house, officials say.
Russia's defence ministry reported shooting down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight, while in Novorossiysk, four people, including a child, were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack, officials there say.

- In Novy Urengoy, a drone attack on an "industrial facility" was repelled, regional governor Dmitry Artyukhov said.
- Russia struck the Starokozache border crossing overnight with drones, killing two civilians and injuring three others, Odesa Oblast Governor Oleh Kiper said.
- Sandu also said that a Russian drone forced Moldova to close its airspace temporarily, warning that the Russian advance in Ukraine is moving further west.
- The Southern Regional Directorate of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service announced in a Facebook post on Sept. 9 that border operations had resumed.
- Russia most likely wants to disrupt logistics with its attacks on border crossings, Andriy Demchenko, the spokesman for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, said during the national telethon, Suspilne reported.
