Salvadoran immigrants with TPS in the U.S. will continue to have protections for now, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

A DHS spokesperson said, 'An announcement on El Salvador’s TPS will be made at the appropriate time.

This decision comes after President Donald Trump returned to the White House, following efforts to end TPS for countries like Venezuela, Haiti, and Afghanistan. Legal challenges to these efforts have been ongoing, with the Supreme Court siding with the administration in June.

The current administration argues that the program has been abused and that conditions in El Salvador have improved enough for immigrants to return home.
