The Indian Express reports that MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk, India's first mainstream plug-in hybrid SUV, emphasizing its range efficiency through a long-range analogy with the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile.
Unlike conventional hybrid vehicles, which charge their on-board battery from the internal combustion engine, the Hector Tomahawk can operate on electric power alone for over 115km, offering a combined fuel efficiency of more than 40kmpl.
MG claims the Tomahawk can travel over 1,100km with a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, making it a significant milestone in India's automotive industry.
The EV segment, as defined globally, includes various forms of electrification, such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), with HEVs combining a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric propulsion system to reduce fossil fuel usage.

- The long-range analogy is perhaps what JSW MG Motor India wanted to play on when it decided to christen its newly launched Hector Tomahawk plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), alongside an all-electric version of this new SUV, to emphasise range efficiency.
