The underlying code for this new mode requires a sensor region less than 100 layout points wide, or approximately 16.57mm, according to a leaker known as pdfu. This is a significant reduction from the current iPhone 17 Pro's sensor region, which measures 20.76mm. The leak, shared ahead of Apple's 'Surprise and Shine' event, shows an iPhone with a narrower pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display, consistent with months of reports.
MacRumors also notes that the new Dynamic Island will be smaller and more capable, as previously. The video, shared online, demonstrates the Dynamic Island toggling between three simultaneous Live Activities, matching Gurman's description. The authenticity of the leak should be treated cautiously, but the design shown is consistent with reports pointing to a reduced Dynamic Island on the Pro models.
