Professor S Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor of VTU, stated, 'Our priority is student welfare. To make exams convenient for students, I have decided to implement demand-based exams. All necessary preparations have been made.
According to VTU, each year around 70,000 students are admitted, and nearly 20 percent fail in exams. This new system is expected to benefit many students who currently have to wait months for supplementary exams. The university has a question bank of 500-600 papers, and question papers will be generated using artificial intelligence, ensuring a wide variety of exam options.
Under the new system, which is set to be implemented from the next academic session in April-May 2027, students can request a re-exam. VTU will conduct it based on demand, allowing students to choose the exam date and even request exams on public holidays. The first public university in the state to adopt such an initiative, VTU oversees 220 engineering colleges with about 3 lakh students.
The new system is designed to address the challenges faced by students who often struggle with the current exam schedule. By allowing students to retake exams when they are ready, VTU aims to provide a more supportive and flexible learning environment. This initiative is expected to enhance student satisfaction and academic success rates.
