CloudNC Raises $20M for Manufacturing Automation Software

CloudNC, a UK-based manufacturing software startup, has announced a $20 million B extension round, increasing its lifetime total raised to $128 million. Founded in 2015 by Saville with Chris Emery as chief science officer, the company offers AI-powered CAM Assist software that automates parts of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining.
Before a part can be cut, a machinist or a computer-aided manufacturing programmer has to decide issues like how a part should be held or what tools should be used, according to Saville. Traditional CAM systems can help with this ideation phase, but CloudNC's CAM Assist takes it a step further by generating execution strategies that experts would use.
The software plugs into traditional CAM systems like Autodesk Fusion or Mastercam to help machinists and programmers make more efficient strategic manufacturing decisions. CloudNC plans to use the investment to accelerate advanced manufacturing and expand into new and existing markets.
John Burbank, founder of Nimble Ventures, stated, 'CloudNC’s automation of CNC will enable massive increases in onshoring of manufacturing and global production of mission-critical components.
