Tommy Robinson, the former leader of the English Defence League, is set to face scrutiny in a new Channel 4 Dispatches documentary, 'Tommy Robinson: Where’s the Money Gone?'. The programme, made in collaboration with the anti-racism campaign group Hope Not Hate, will delve into the financial activities of the controversial figure, who has been known to use high-end properties in Spain and Portugal as hideouts and production bases for his extremist content.
According to reports, Robinson's income is difficult to track, with donations from online supporters, right-wing US think tanks, book sales, and cryptocurrency forming part of his fundraising operation. The investigation also found that Robinson and his associates used a series of companies to conduct activism, fundraising, and media operations, with several eventually wound up through creditors' voluntary liquidation.
Robinson, who holds an Irish passport, has a documented history of 'hiding' in Spain and Portugal, particularly the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol, and Canary Islands. The documentary will expose how he funds stays at luxurious hideaways, including a property in L'Albir, near Benidorm, where he hosted a series of British and American extremists on his podcast.
Robinson has been warned of the investigation, with the activist threatening journalists who revealed his luxurious hideaway in Costa Blanca. In a voice note, he ranted, 'Matt, you are irrelevant… We are going to declare a declaration of war on you and your media because you’re sh*t.' The documentary will air on Channel 4 at 10pm on Wednesday night.
