He added that ITV made the decision to 'fire' him 'a while ago' and communicated it to him 'just recently.
Jones has been a coach on The Voice UK for over a decade, and his acts have won the series three times. The show has been a familiar companion to Jones, and his departure has come as a shock to fans. ITV has yet to comment on the changes to the show, but The Sun newspaper reported that Cheryl is being eyed as Jones' replacement.
Jones has been vocal about his disappointment, stating that ITV's response to reports of him not returning for a new season was misleading. 'They now say in the press they wanted to "refresh" the show, and with a new coaching lineup there wouldn't be a chair for me,' he wrote. Fellow celebrities, including LeAnn Rimes, have come to Jones' defense, with Rimes writing, 'go... you legend!
ITV is reportedly in talks with Jones to return for the upcoming series, but Jones is not thrilled about being offered a reduced role. 'They are offering a much-reduced role where I would make an appearance but without being actually involved from the start, and I'm not thrilled about that,' he added. Despite the controversy, Jones insisted that he loves the show and ITV made the decision to 'fire' him without discussing it with him.
