The John Paul II Vatican Foundation, celebrating its 45th anniversary, continues to uphold the legacy of St. John Paul II through educational programs and scholarships. According to the foundation, more than 1,100 students and over 40 doctoral graduates have completed the program, with an annual allocation of more than 500,000 euros ($581,000).
Years later, a recipient of the academic scholarship shared her experience, saying, 'It gave me the possibility of being part of a community and of a great work initiated by John Paul II.' She also highlighted the support she received, emphasizing the importance of prayer and the feeling of not being alone during difficult times.
Father Karitas, a recipient of the scholarship, explained that the foundation's mission is to pass on the late pope's values through concrete works rather than nostalgia. 'We want to unearth a true gem from the global crowd — a person or institution, often little known, that somewhere, in its own specific place, makes the world more beautiful, safer and better because he or she was inspired by St. John Paul II,' he said.
Pawel Ptasznik, chairman of the foundation, emphasized the importance of continuing the pontiff's legacy and values to future generations. The foundation's scholarship program at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, provides students with accommodation, meals, formation, and academic education throughout their studies. This program was established in 1981, three years after John Paul II's election, to support works connected with concern for the human person, particularly young people, students, and pilgrims.
To mark the 45th anniversary, the foundation launched a new website in four languages, further expanding its reach and impact. The website serves as a platform to showcase the foundation's work and to inspire others to continue the legacy of St. John Paul II through concrete actions.
