In a brief statement, Ndejembi extended his condolences and noted that funeral preparations were underway in southern Kizimkazi. The couple, who married in 1978, had a daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, who is a Tanzanian MP representing a constituency in Zanzibar.
Hafidh Ameir Hassan, who became Tanzania's first First Gentleman after President Samia took office in 2021, kept a low profile and was rarely seen in public. The vice-president led tributes, conveying his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Kenyan President William Ruto and Burundi's President Évariste Ndayishimiye also paid their respects, expressing sorrow and praying for comfort for the president and her family.
The news of Hassan's death was shared on the Tanzanian presidency's X account, showing a private man who had been a lifelong companion to the president. His passing marks a significant moment in Tanzanian politics, as the country mourns the loss of a distinguished figure.
