Rubin Observatory Peers Deep Into the Famous COSMOS Field

Bob Blum, Director of the Rubin Observatory at NSF NOIRLab, noted that this image is just the beginning, adding, 'As we celebrate the start of science with Rubin Observatory, our thoughts are with our staff and the community of Chile impacted by recent storms.
This marks the first time the Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) Camera, the world's most powerful digital camera, has produced an image and catalog for scientific research, highlighting its sensitivity and high resolution.
Astronomers have studied the COSMOS field for over two decades, directing various telescopes to observe it in different wavelengths, and now Rubin has provided a new perspective using its unique capabilities.
