Nagercoil railway station in Tamil Nadu is set for significant upgrades, including nine new stabling lines and two additional platforms, as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which aims at the development and upgradation of stations across the Indian Railways network.
A senior Southern Railway official told Indianexpress.com that these infrastructure projects will support the growing rail network at Nagercoil and enhance train-handling capacity and operations.
The redevelopment includes improvements to the concourse, circulating area, parking area, booking office, and waiting hall, as well as the construction of a new 6-metre-wide foot over bridge to improve passenger movement across the station.
Under the ABSS, the station is also set to receive more Divyangjan facilities, water coolers, charging points, digital coach indication boards, and an upgraded passenger announcement system, aligning with its long-term vision of better station accessibility and multimodal connectivity.
