LAPD Warns of Ongoing Crackdown on Street Takeovers

In Short: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has warned that Saturday's operation to disperse a 700-person street takeover is just the beginning of increased enforcement actions.
More than 150 LAPD officers, along with Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol personnel, responded to a large gathering at South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard in Harbor Gateway early Saturday morning.
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell stated at a news conference that this operation is 'not a one-off' and that similar enforcement will be carried out at future street takeovers when staffing permits.
City Councilman Tim McOsker reported that officers were prepared for the takeover on the first night of the Labor Day weekend and sealed off the intersection to prevent participants from escaping.
Mayor Karen Bass supported the crackdown, declaring 'zero tolerance' for illegal street racing and takeovers, indicating a commitment to ongoing enforcement efforts.
