Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has harshly criticized High Performance Director Aaqib Javed for the team's current slump, stating that the director has been making 'bad decisions' for the past three years. According to The Indian Express, Ali believes Javed should step aside if he cannot make a difference to the team's fortunes.
The former right-hander also highlighted the lack of fast bowlers in the team, comparing Pakistan's situation unfavorably to Bangladesh. "We have to ask why the fast bowlers are not coming through. Look at Bangladesh. They were not content with just spin at home; they wanted to grow as a cricketing nation and produced a group of fast bowlers who have just won a Test match in Australia. You can’t just hope it happens, which is what the attitude feels like in Pakistan these days," Ali said.
Ali also expressed sympathy for Babar Azam, Pakistan's current captain, admitting that this is perhaps the worst time to be in that position. However, he added that Azam is not as mentally tough as the likes of Misbah-ul-Haq. "We need a clear roadmap to get back to the top, with an emphasis on producing fast bowlers," Ali concluded, emphasizing the need for a settled structure and long-term planning.
