The vehicle is set to be manufactured at Audi’s flagship plant in Ingolstadt, Germany, with initial deliveries scheduled for December.
The A2 e-tron features a sleek body design with a drag coefficient of 0.24, thanks to active cooling air intakes, an enclosed underbody, aerodynamically optimized wheels, and flush electronic door handles. Under the hood, the rear-wheel-drive model offers four power outputs and three battery capacities.
Gernot Goellner, CEO of Audi, emphasized the importance of efficiency in the European market, stating, 'In Europe, we need compact and efficient cars for the future. Premium cannot just mean more, more power, more resources, it has to mean using resources more intelligently.
The introduction of the A2 e-tron is part of Audi's broader strategy to counter intense competition from Chinese manufacturers and revive declining global sales, which have dropped by 7% in the first half of 2026. The new model directly replaces the outgoing A1 hatchback and Q2 compact crossover in Audi's lineup.
Audi's decision to bring back the A2 nameplate reflects a shift in the company's approach to electric vehicles. While it had previously committed to an all-electric future, the automaker now offers a mix of gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles, as Goellner noted, 'The door is open for a mix of gas, hybrid, and electrification.
