Diwali Train Ticket Booking Begins Tomorrow

Confirmed

Health Desk

In Short: Diwali train ticket reservations for 2026 are set to start on September 6, with a 60-day advance reservation period.

Passengers should be aware of the booking schedule based on their travel date. For instance, those traveling on November 5 can book from September 6, while those traveling on November 8 should check the applicable booking date within the 60-day window.

In previous years, several trains to major destinations reached waiting-list status shortly after ticket booking began, leading to heavy demand and limited availability.

The Indian Express advises passengers to plan their journeys and book tickets early to improve their chances of securing confirmed seats. Many live in Chennai for business, employment, and higher education and travel to their native places during major festivals such as Diwali and Pongal.

Special trains were also operated to accommodate the additional festive-season demand, but these services too witnessed heavy bookings. As a result, seats on popular trains could fill up within minutes of reservations opening.

Passengers who fail to secure reserved tickets may have to depend on unreserved coaches or alternative modes of transport. The Railways has announced several festival special trains on various routes to provide passengers with additional travel options and ensure smooth movement during the upcoming festive season.

Some of the busiest routes that usually see high demand for train tickets during the festive season include Delhi-Patna, Patna-Ahmedabad, Patna-Udhna, Mumbai-Patna, Howrah-Patna, Bengaluru-Patna, Firozpur-Patna, Varanasi-Delhi, Kanpur-Delhi, Ludhiana-Supaul, Ludhiana-Patna, Chennai-Patna, Hyderabad-Patna, and Delhi-Gorakhpur, among others.
