Cape Verde Declares Two Days of Mourning After Deadly Bus Crash

In Short: Cape Verde has announced a two-day mourning period following a tragic bus crash that killed 25 people, mostly children and teenagers.
The crash occurred on the island of Fogo and prompted a major overnight rescue operation. Emergency workers searched the wreckage in a remote, rocky valley. Among the victims was the bus driver, who had organized the annual excursion as a gift for the pupils he transported to school.
Seven victims had already been buried earlier in the day, while the remaining burials were scheduled to take place later, according to Cape Verde’s public radio network RCV.
Kuhn argued the crash underscores the need to scrap New Jersey policies that, in most cases, limit cooperation between local, county, and state law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
