Punjab Government Transfers DSP in Custodial Torture Row

Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's office faced criticism over the alleged custodial torture of Mohanjit Singh, who was taken into custody on September 2 following an incident during a Lok Milni programme in Sheron village. In response, the government has transferred DSP Harvinder Singh and directed three other police personnel to report to Police Lines, Sangrur.
The Sangrur police have initiated a departmental inquiry into the allegations of torture. According to an order issued by the Punjab DGP, DSP Harvinder Singh, who was serving as DSP (SD) in Sunam, has been transferred to the 1st CDO Battalion in Bahadurgarh, Patiala, against a vacant post.
Mohanjit Singh, who hails from Sheron village, has alleged custodial torture and assault by the Punjab Police. His allegations have sparked a custodial torture row that has drawn attention to the handling of the incident by the police force.
