A one-year-old girl from Kerala’s Kozhikode had to undergo surgery after a needle was found lodged near her right ribs, according to reports. The needle was detected in July 2026 during a detailed examination at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, as reported by The Indian Express. Anju, the child’s mother, stated that the needle appeared to have been inside the child’s body for a long time, as doctors informed her. The family claims the needle may have been left behind during treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital, where the child was born in June 2025 and was later taken for scans revealing the presence of the needle.
The family further alleged that the child had not undergone any other surgery or prolonged hospital admission during the intervening year. Anju said, 'The needle was removed through surgery. Doctors told us it appeared to have been inside the child’s body for a long time,' highlighting their concerns about medical negligence.
