The European Union and Ukraine are set to convene their first meeting of the new drone alliance in Brussels, aiming to enhance European drone capabilities and coordination. According to reports, the alliance seeks to contribute to European efforts towards a comprehensive European drone and counter-drone capacity and offer a multi-layered framework to support decision-making processes.
Simonas Šatūnas, head of Kubilius’s cabinet, emphasized the importance of learning from the European drone ecosystem, stating, 'We’re trying to learn from them a lot, how the ecosystem functions, how the government and drone industries function together.
The Commission initiated the alliance by sending out a call for members in early May, with the primary goals of facilitating and coordinating drone deals and supporting decision-making processes across Europe. Since then, a new 'defence industrial partnership' has been established, focusing on a comprehensive EU-Ukraine framework to support the implementation of drone deals signed by Ukraine with several EU/EFTA capitals.
