Venice's indie film market, the Venice Production Bridge, launched on September 4 with a strong turnout of 4,000 film industry executives, nearly half of whom are producers. The event showcases 37 feature-length fiction and documentary projects, along with 14 immersive projects.
Pascal Diot, the market's chief, emphasized that the Toronto market has not affected his numbers, stating, 'So far, the Toronto market has not had any impact on our numbers.' He noted that the Venice Production Bridge continues to attract a similar number of sales agents and distributors as in previous years.
Diot's assertion comes as the industry watches for potential shifts in market dynamics, with some fearing that the concurrent Toronto market might draw attendees away from Venice.
The Venice Production Bridge aims to fill a gap in financing for independent films, offering a platform for projects that may not find a home at larger markets like Toronto.
