A Russian drone struck the central building of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) on Volodymyrska Street in central Kyiv on Friday, Sept. 4, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. The strike was aimed specifically at the office of SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad, located in the building opposite Kyiv’s St. Sophia Cathedral.
The reported attack comes amid a sustained wave of Russian drone attacks on Kyiv. According to Zelensky, Ukraine has defined target locations for retaliatory strikes following a briefing from Poklad.
Ukraine has made significant progress in producing its own drones, with some 95 percent of them now assembled domestically. Despite this, Ukraine remains reliant on American interceptors to defend against ballistic missile attacks.
The incident highlights Ukraine’s ongoing struggle against Russian aggression, even as the country transitions to more self-reliant defense systems and intelligence capabilities.
