Rochester Diocese to Receive First-Class Archbishop Sheen Relic

Bishop Bonnici of the Rochester Diocese will bring a first-class relic of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, who served as its bishop from 1954 to 1969, to colleges in the diocese before returning it to the cathedral. A permanent memorial to Archbishop Sheen is being planned.
Father Kelly, a representative of the diocese, noted that Bishop Tylka of the Archdiocese of New York is also making a relic available to the Archdiocese of New York, where Sheen served as auxiliary bishop from 1951 to 1966.
This move comes as the diocese prepares to honor Sheen, a prominent figure in American Catholicism. The relic will serve as a symbol of his legacy and contributions to the faith.
In related news, the law firm representing abuse victims around the country has announced a settlement involving more than 145 survivors, though it does not include a payout from the diocese’s largest insurance company, U.S. Fire. Insurers have at times argued against liability for such payments.
