‘Tactical athletes,’ such as military personnel and law enforcement officers, face unique physical challenges that differ from traditional sports. According to Benjamin Levine, director of the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, these athletes often do not have the luxury of a warm-up period. Levine, who is vice chair of the group that wrote the new guidance, explains that the lack of preparation time makes their cardiovascular fitness requirements distinct from those of other athletes.
