Gloria Steinem, a pioneering journalist and feminist activist, died peacefully at her home in New York, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday. She started her career as a journalist in the 1970s and co-founded Ms. magazine, one of the first publications to focus on women's issues beyond domesticity and beauty norms.

Steinem reflected on her activism, saying, 'That speak-out was the beginning of activism for me,' in an email to the AP in 2022, while discussing the reversal of Roe v Wade. Despite her fear of public speaking, she became a leading feminist, advocating for equality and social issues.

Gloria’s near-century on earth were years well-lived, and she continued working for equality until the very end,' a post on her official Instagram page said, confirming her passing. Steinem was a pioneer of the 1960s' era of second-wave feminism and wrote about the struggles of women in the sex industry, highlighting the exploitation and abuse they faced.
