EXCLUSIVE: After Ariana Grande announced she was departing the West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George last month, sources say Jonathan Bailey is now exiting the play as well. Last December, Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye reported that Grande and Bailey were thinking of re-teaming on a production of Sunday in the Park with George , with Empire Street Productions and London’s Barbican Centre confirming the next month that they’d be staging the musical with the pair, set for a summer 2027 opening.

“After much consideration, I have decided to step back from ‘Sunday in the Park with George,’” Bailey said in a statement, in which he called “Ari” one of “my dearest friends. Grande revealed she was set to drop out of the Stephen Sondheim musical last month as she took “a step back from visibility” following the wrap of her “Eternal Sunshine” tour in London.

The revival is due to take place early next summer with Marianne Elliot directing and new casting will be announced “in due course.” “Work on the production continues,” the producers said in a statement.
