House to Vote on Funding Bill After Recess

Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, argued that the provision's exclusion would allow the Trump administration to move funds allotted to the rest of Customs and Border Protection to the agency.

The president's party nearly always loses seats in the midterms, particularly with a president this unpopular in the White House, and they really only have a tiny slice of seats to spare in order to hold on to their majority.

Though his campaign said the committee's findings "completely exonerate" Edwards under House rules, the North Carolina Republican ended his reelection bid days later. House GOP leaders plan to fast-track a vote, which would require significant Democratic support to meet the two-thirds majority threshold for passage.

It said the stopgap would prevent, quote, "another dangerous shutdown that harms hard-working families and forces federal employees to go without pay," end quote. It also said that the president opposes another, quote, "futile government shutdown.
