City’s director of football Hugo Viana praised Fernandez, saying, 'He is a complete midfielder: technically gifted, hardworking, tenacious, and a goalscorer.' The transfer comes as City has spent around £435m this summer, with £325m allocated to midfielders alone.
Fernandez had been targeting a move to Real Madrid but ultimately chose City. He had been dropped by Chelsea for two matches last season after expressing interest in Madrid, angering the Blues.
