What to stream this week: The Mandalorian and Grogu, Earle Meets World, Ellie Goulding

Movies. Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu begins streaming on Disney+ on Wednesday, Sept. 2, Variety, CNET, and Disney’s own listing agree. Associated Press entertainment journalists, writing for the week of Aug. 31–Sept. 6, also timed it to Wednesday. Jon Favreau directs Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and Grogu, enlisted by a New Republic officer (Sigourney Weaver). Variety put worldwide theatrical gross at about $345 million after a May 22 opening, the lowest for a live-action Star Wars film. AP’s Mark Kennedy called the picture an “overlong and overviolent chapter, which relies on too many computer effects and exposes the limits of puppetry.” A companion official podcast and a LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special are dated the same day.

Also in AP’s movie list: the sixth Scary Movie arrives Thursday on Paramount+, the Wayans’ return after they left the series following 2001’s Scary Movie 2; Kennedy described it as loosely tied horror and topical skits. Gal Gadot’s The Runner, directed by Kevin Macdonald, debuts Wednesday on Prime Video; AP Film Writer Jake Coyle wrote that Gadot plays a lawyer traveling on foot through London to kill a client and save her kidnapped son.

Series. Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen returns for season 2 on Netflix on Thursday, with Theo James; AP says Hugh Bonneville and Michele Morrone join. Wikipedia, citing Rotten Tomatoes, lists season 1 at 75 percent from 74 critic reviews (average 7.0/10), with Metacritic at 66. The 2019 film is 75 percent from 277 critic reviews on the same aggregator, per Wikipedia. The series description on that page: an aristocrat inherits the family estate and finds a cannabis empire already operating there. Glen Powell’s Chad Powers season 2 drops the same day on Hulu, all six episodes, with Powell’s cover story under strain. Alix Earle’s reality series Earle Meets World premieres Friday, Sept. 4, on Netflix. AP noted Earle, her sister Ashtin, and their blended family, including stepmom Ashley Dupré. The Hollywood Reporter, citing Netflix, said the first season is eight episodes and dated the premiere Sept. 4, matching AP’s Friday.

Music. Ellie Goulding’s sixth studio album, I Know Too Much, is dated Friday, Sept. 4, by Billboard and by AP Music Writer Maria Sherman. Polydor issued three preceding singles AP named: the synth-pop “Black Prada Dress,” the acoustic “4 Seasons,” and the club track “Ravers.” AP noted it is her first album since her marriage to Caspar Jopling ended. Natalie Imbruglia’s seventh album, Algorithm, is also Friday on AP’s list.

Games. AP’s Lou Kesten flagged Bandai Namco’s The Blood of Dawnwalker for Thursday on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC, from Polish studio Rebel Wolves, including designers who worked on The Witcher 3. Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first new Onimusha since 2006, is Friday on PlayStation 5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC.
