Lawyers Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter said in a statement to BBC that the court granted their request to withdraw from the case and has appointed the Los Angeles County Public Defender's to represent the singer.

US singer D4vd to go on trial for murder in death of 14-year-old Los Angeles County's top prosecutor, Nathan Hochman, said on Monday outside the courtroom that his office is "ready to proceed" with its case against Burke.

The star, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, has been appointed a public defender to mount his defence for the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, 14, whose remains were found in September 2025 in a Tesla registered to his address.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the lying-in-wait allegation stems from D4vd's invitation to the teen to come to his Hollywood Hills home on April 23, 2025, while the financial gain allegation stems from the singer's effort to maintain his lucrative music career, which was being threatened by his relationship with Hernandez.

Olmedo found sufficient evidence following more than four days of sometimes-graphic testimony during a hearing in July to allow the case against Burke to proceed to trial. A judge determined last month that he will stand trial for murder.

Hernandez was considered the key witness in the investigation into Burke's alleged sexual activity with the underage girl, leading to the allegation of murdering a witness, the district attorney said.
