Russian strikes destroy 12 million books ahead of Ukraine's first week back at school

Hundreds of schools have been affected in the strikes ahead of the academic year on Tuesday as around nine per cent of new textbooks have been burned, Pravda reported. The devastating attacks wiped out around 1.5 million books in July and 10 million in August, according to the newspaper.
It comes as Russia ’s defence ministry has announced it is preparing “massive strikes” on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in retaliation for a drone campaign by Kyiv attacking warehouses and oil and gas facilities. The Kremlin issued a statement on Monday to say the Russian and Chinese leader touched upon the conflict in Ukraine, but added that it was not it the main theme of their meeting.
India’s prime minister has urged ally Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine, saying his country backed every peace effort, Russian media reported.
