(Photo by Fox Photos/ ) ( Getty ) Donald Trump ’s administration is reportedly considering withdrawing US support for British sovereignty over the Falkland Islands to pressure the UK into raising defence spending. This follows a previous threat in April where a leaked Pentagon email suggested reviewing Britain's claim to the Falklands after a lack of support in the Iran war.

Pentagon officials are reviewing NATO allies' defence commitments, with a senior US official stating that the UK will receive special attention to encourage greater investment. The pressure follows confirmation that the UK Treasury's budget will fail to set out when the country will meet its target of allocating 3 per cent of GDP to defence.
