Anne Hathaway Joins Tom Cruise in ‘Days of Thunder’ Follow-Up; Paramount Sets Release Date (EXCLUSIVE)

Tom Cruise has officially announced the sequel to Days of Thunder , with Anne Hathaway joining the cast for the follow-up to the 1990 racing film. Anne Hathaway will star opposite Tom Cruise in the next chapter of “ Days of Thunder ,” Variety has learned exclusively.

The ”Days of Thunder” follow-up is the first significant piece of IP that Cruise will engage with after ramping down the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. The Hollywood Reporter reported in November 2024 that Cruise had talked to Paramount about a follow-up to his 1990 NASCAR racing film.

Cruise revealed the news Saturday on his social platforms featuring a picture of the two A-listers leaning against a NASCAR race car in Daytona. Popular on Variety In the original, Cruise’s Trickle gets recruited to a new NASCAR team by a retired racing legend (Robert Duvall).

Plot details are scarce, but Hathaway is set to play a racecar team owner and engineer. Cruise is producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.

Cruise will reprise his role as the scrappy driver Cole Trickle. He’s also on the hook for another “Top Gun” movie, and will return to the prestige drama space with this year’s Alejandro González Iñárritu film “Digger.”

The post also announced that the film would be released June 2, 2028. The first film also starred Nicole Kidman, Randy Quaid and John C.
