What could Meta’s US settlement mean around the world

As a part of the settlement, Meta has said it will set time limits on children’s use of its platforms Facebook and Instagram and block night-time usage. The UK government said it was "following developments closely" in the Meta settlement.
New York state, which will receive at least $819m according to its attorney general, said the money would be used "to support mental health services, education programs, and other efforts to repair and reduce the harm caused by unhealthy social media use among young people".
California’s attorney general said it was a victory that would make “a world of difference for children and their families”. Many other states have said they have earmarked the cash for similar initiatives.
"All platforms should empower parents and support teens in these ways because we know that when teens are restricted on one app, they simply move to another," Meta said. Another former Meta director, Zvika Krieger, said Meta agreed to the changes because it saw "the writing on the wall".
