The group stated that a drone targeted a group of civilians traveling in the desert town of Sowdari, and as others rushed to help the victims, a second drone struck, violating international humanitarian law and constituting a war crime.
Emergency Lawyers called for an independent investigation to determine responsibility for the attacks, which have become the leading cause of death in Sudan, accounting for 80% of civilian deaths during the first four months of 2026, according to the United Nations.
The conflict in Sudan has claimed at least 59,000 lives, and the drone strikes are part of a broader crisis in the region, which began with the United States and Israel launching strikes against Iran on February 28, leading to a months-long Middle East war.
