Two teenagers, 13 and 14, among 33 UK nationals missing in disaster

Nepali police said the death toll had risen to 359, while Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said more than 1,300 people are missing, with the Nepal Tourism Board saying 644 tourists are out of contact.
Earlier on Wednesday, the tour operator Alpine Eco Trek said a 13-year-old girl was among the missing British nationals, with two Irish citizens also missing. The UK Foreign Office said it is working closely with Nepalese authorities "following concerning reports of British nationals who are missing" and has encouraged them to follow local guidance and "remain alert to the changing situation".
The Trekkers' Society, which organises tours in Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan, said nine UK nationals on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash are missing after they crossed the Nepal-Tibet border. He said that among the missing foreign nationals are 33 Americans, 34 Australians, 24 Canadians, 4 Germans, 19 Malaysians and one Israeli.

Kailash Journeys also reported a group of 27 guests and staff missing, with a spokesperson saying they were last in contact with them early Wednesday morning local time. The State Department also said its embassy in Kathmandu was working with local authorities to to find and help U.S. citizens affected by the disaster.
Pandey said his missing group included tourists from the UK, US, Canada and Singapore and his guides. The tourist board said more than 100 of the missing people were yet to have a nationality confirmed.
Sooliman said the disaster site was 125km north of the capital Kathmandu. South African charity group Gift of the Givers has put an 11-person urban search and water rescue team on standby to travel to Nepal to try to rescue or recover at least six South Africans reported missing in the massive flash flood that hit the country’s border region with Tibet, China, on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.
Houses, roads and energy infrastructure were destroyed in Nepal, while officials in Tibet said they feared “major casualties”, with some people missing in the county of Gyirong after a mudslide hit a border land crossing.

- The company's manager Kumar Adhikari said he was in contact with the guides until 08:40 when they were expected to be at Tibet's immigration office, but their phones were disconnected.
