FAA is pushing to fire LaGuardia air traffic controllers who left before deadly plane collision

“The vast majority of air-traffic controllers are great patriots — they show up for work, complete their full shift, and come back and do it all again,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement. The FAA said it has hired over 2,000 controllers this year, or about 94 percent of its hiring goal for 2026, to help alleviate an air-traffic staffing shortage that has been worsening travel delays.
The National Air Traffic Controllers Association said it was discussing these fraud allegations with FAA officials.
