Trump insists U.S. achieving "very big victory" in war with Iran

Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister, addressed a letter to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday asking for the global body to "condemn and reject" the U.S. actions in Iran, especially the new round of sanctions issued this week.
Iran and Oman are still working on the details of an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian source said on Wednesday, after Iran's Revolutionary Guards said the two countries had agreed how to share the waterway and its revenues.
The meeting followed a series of technical discussions between the two countries aimed at implementing a gas cooperation agreement, following on an agreement for the transfer of Russian gas to Iran that was signed in July 2024.
Iran and Russia held "constructive" discussions on advancing cooperation in the gas sector, including implementation of an agreement to transfer Russian natural gas to Iran, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported Wednesday.
Treasury secretary Scott Bessent said nearly 60 Iran -linked entities, individuals, and vessels would be sanctioned as part of Operation Economic Outcast, without offering specific details on the measures. He also asked for the U.N. to monitor the humanitarian implications of the sanctions on the Iranian population, and said Iran could retaliate in the interim.
His comments came as Oman and Iran said that an agreement on future control of the Strait had not yet been finalised. President Trump last week said he expected all countries to get on board with the sanctions announced on Monday.
We have been in negotiations with Oman for about a month, and we have reached results that are acceptable to both sides," Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi said in comments published by Iranian state media.
The elite force's spokesperson, echoing Tehran's official stance, also said the strait would not open unless the US met Tehran's conditions under an interim ceasefire agreement that was struck in June before unravelling.
