NASA Prepares for Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Launch

NASA is preparing for the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The launch, targeted for no earlier than August 30 at 7:26 a.m., will be streamed live through various platforms. The telescope, designed to explore dark energy and dark matter, will also conduct a statistical census of planetary systems and enable a broad range of astrophysics research.
In the meantime, NASA and SpaceX are addressing an oxidizer leak on the Dragon’s propulsion system, which has led to a delay in the Crew-13 mission to the International Space Station. The mission will now include Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov as mission specialists.
On August 21, the Roman Space Telescope was encapsulated within the payload fairing in the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility at Kennedy Space Center, ahead of its mating to a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. This encapsulation protects the spacecraft during rollout, ascent, and the early phases of flight.
The telescope, a flagship observatory designed to explore some of the universe’s biggest mysteries, will investigate dark energy and dark matter, conduct a statistical census of planetary systems, and enable a range of additional astrophysics research, as outlined by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
