Insidious: Out of the Further opens to $25.3M; Spider-Man keeps weekend lead

Sony/Screen Gems’ Insidious: Out of the Further, directed by Jacob Chase, opened to about $25.3 million domestically over the weekend after a $10.6 million Friday that briefly topped the chart. Trades say Marvel/Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day still won the weekend in its fourth frame with roughly $39 million.

The sixth Insidious title (a spinoff starring Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and franchise regular Lin Shaye) cost about $18 million to produce. Critics’ scores sat in the high-50s on Rotten Tomatoes in weekend coverage; CinemaScore was reported as C+.
