What we know

Iran on Saturday denounced U.S. plans to announce new economic sanctions that officials said could hit Tehran’s oil trade and pressure third countries, including China.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei called the forthcoming measures an assertion of extraterritorial sovereignty. U.S. President Donald Trump has separately warned of consequences for any country providing Iran an economic “lifeline,” while Iranian military leaders have pledged strong responses to enemy threats.
