Local officials and police reported that the fatalities were junior high school students, including a Grade 8 student, who was among those killed in the shooting at a junior secondary school building of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City, Philippines.

According to local officials and investigators, the alleged shooter, a junior high school student, entered a classroom on the fourth floor and opened fire on Grade 8 students.

Shellamie Chang reported that the office received reports of the shooting at 7:50 a.m., and Romeo Ocampo Jr. said police recovered Glock 9mm pistols from both the alleged shooter and the deceased student.

However, the deceased student's close friends and relatives contradicted the notion of him being a threat, stating that he was known to be friendly and polite. Students also reported that the alleged shooter may have brought the firearms into the campus and used them during the attack.

One report suggested that the pistol initially used in the attack may have jammed and was later found near the deceased student's body, raising questions about the sequence of events.
