Flooding Kills One in South Korea’s Geoje-si

In Short: Torrential rainfall in Geoje-si, South Gyeongsang, South Korea, has caused widespread flooding, resulting in at least one death and triggering a landslide, according to the interior and safety ministry.
Heavy rains have been recorded in South Gyeongsang province, including the city of Geoje, where an 800mm (31in) deluge over the weekend triggered a landslide, the interior and safety ministry said.
This event is part of a larger pattern of severe weather affecting the region, with about three weeks of intermittent monsoon rains and a storm that hit Luzon two weeks ago leaving at least 23 people dead, mostly due to landslides and floods.
The flooding has affected millions of people, with nearly 25,000 remaining in government emergency shelters in several northern provinces, according to the office of civil defence.
South Gyeongsang Province, also known as Gyeongnam, is a province in the southeast of South Korea, with its provincial capital at Changwon.
