Iran’s Rezaei says Hormuz stays closed until U.S. ends war, blockade, and frees assets

Earlier, Rezaei affirmed that the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has imposed transit restrictions since early March due to US-Israeli aggression, will only happen when Washington accepts Tehran's conditions, according to Press TV , Rezaei detailed Iran's stance during a Tuesday meeting with Chinese Ambassador Zong Piyu in Tehran, stating that the US must end the war on Iran and its regional allies and release Iran's blocked funds.
“Iran’s message is clear: The Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until the US ends the war and blockade, releases Iran’s frozen assets, and agrees to a region-wide ceasefire, including in Lebanon and Gaza,” Mohsen Rezaei said in a social media post late on Tuesday. Separately on Tuesday, US Central Command said a US Navy MH-60 helicopter fired two Hellfire missiles to disable the steering gear of a Panama-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman. The US military reported an overnight attack on Tuesday, saying a US Navy helicopter fired two Hellfire missiles at a Panama-flagged vessel in order to enforce its naval blockade of Iran’s southern ports.
In a post on X, Rezaei said Iran wants the United States to halt the ongoing war and blockade, unfreeze Iranian assets and support a broader ceasefire covering the region, including Lebanon and Gaza. “The US had about 30 to 40 war vessels in the region before the war, but today not even a single US warship is present in the Persian Gulf,” he said, adding that the declining level of key air defence missiles and precision munitions in the Pentagon’s arsenal was a “big threat” facing US decision-makers. This marked the 12th vessel attacked by US forces since April, and the third since the blockade resumed almost a month ago after the collapse of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was signed by Iran and the US in June. With the 60-day period of the repeatedly violated MoU approaching next week, mediators such as Pakistan and Qatar have said they are continuing efforts to bring the two sides closer to a diplomatic solution. “If Iran is threatened again, hundreds of thousands of miles of energy lines, thousands of power plants, all the American and non-American systems, and even global infrastructure connected to the internet will be exposed to threat,” IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said on Wednesday.
