Qatari foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Tuesday that mediation by Qatar, Oman and Pakistan with the United States and Iran was “in very progressive stages,” with draft language circulating, but that no direct U.S.–Iran talks were on the books. Qatar’s emir received a phone call from President Donald Trump on bridging differences, the emir’s office said.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC there was a chance of a deal “today or tomorrow” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s foreign ministry framed its live talks as constructive negotiations with Oman on temporary shipping security—not direct talks with Washington—while a cargo vessel near the Oman coast reported being struck by an unknown projectile, UKMTO said.
