What we know

At a Sunday news conference, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting at a newly opened In-N-Out Burger died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams. Hicks said investigators were confident Williams acted alone. Three other people were killed and seven wounded; Sunday’s injury update listed two released, three stable, and two critical. In-N-Out owner Lynsi Snyder said an employee was among the dead; victim names had not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification.

Hicks credited an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper and an armed citizen—identities not disclosed Sunday—with returning fire that helped drive the suspect from the restaurant and prevent further casualties. Witnesses described chaos around the drive-thru and plaza; the FBI asked the public to submit photos, video, and audio. Detectives were still seeking a motive; Williams’s family was cooperating. Hicks also warned against online misidentification of an unrelated person as the shooter.
