The Al-Qaeda-linked Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin and Tuareg Azawad Liberation Front rebels ambush a Malian military convoy in the Gao Region of Mali.

The groups said the convoy was made up of both the Malian army and Russia’s Africa Corps, whose forces have been supporting Mali’s military on the ground. The Malian military said in a statement on Saturday that armed groups ambushed a convoy in a remote part of the Gao region.
The rebels also released footage that they said showed Malian soldiers surrendering. Mali’s army says it has launched a counterattack after fighters linked to al-Qaeda and members of a separatist group ambushed soldiers in the volatile north.
AFP reported that images released by the FLA purportedly showed dozens of army prisoners seized during the ambush. These operations allowed the convoy to break free from the ambushes and continue its route,” it said.
