NASA has expanded its Earth science research opportunities with the introduction of A.17 Hydrosphere under ROSES-25, focusing on the physics of Earth's water across oceans, land, and the atmosphere. This new element encompasses three core disciplines: ocean physics, terrestrial hydrology, and precipitation science, aiming to address fundamental questions about water distribution, movement, and transformation.

The Hydrosphere element is designed to foster interdisciplinary research, encouraging the broadening of these topics to other earth science disciplines. By integrating these diverse areas, the goal is to provide a more comprehensive understanding of Earth's water systems.

This new opportunity, which was released as part of ROSES-25 Amendment 72, seeks to advance the understanding of the Earth's water cycle and its interactions with the atmosphere and land. The overlapping goals of the element are to address critical questions about the distribution, movement, and transformation of water across the Earth system.
