Around 1,000 Sudanese citizens have returned to their country from Egypt, marking a continued trend of voluntary repatriation efforts since April 2023, according to a local committee. The returnees arrived in Egypt’s Argeen Land port border crossing gate following their evacuation process from Sudan due to ongoing clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The vehicles carrying the returnees set out from Abdeen district in central Cairo, in trips organized by the General Secretariat of the Sudanese Zakat Chamber, as reported by SUNA. Hassan Khalid, the rapporteur of Sudan’s Hope Committee for Voluntary Return, stated that repatriation operations will continue until the last Sudanese returns to his home, with a high turnout, particularly among university students, reported by Khalid.
By the end of 2025, about 428,676 people had voluntarily returned to Sudan, according to figures previously announced by the Sudanese authorities. This month, the number of Sudanese who returned from Egypt has reached 3,800 people, bringing the total to over 1.2 million since the war began in April 2023, according to official estimates.
