Politician Boris Nadezhdin was released from a police station in the Moscow suburb of Dolgoprudny after being detained on July 13 over alleged display of "extremist symbols," according to Russian independent media outlet Mediazona.
After his release later that evening, Nadezhdin revealed that police charged him with the administrative offense of displaying “extremist” symbols for sharing a link to a video that contained an image of the late opposition activist Alexei Navalny.
The president's latest report comes amid an ongoing Russian drone attack on the capital with explosions heard in central Kyiv beginning around 12:30 a.m. local time overnight on Aug. 31, according to Kyiv Independent journalists on the ground.
For the State Duma elections this September, Nadezhdin said he plans to campaign on a platform advocating for a “return to normal life,” though he has admitted that authorities could move to disqualify him once again. Nadezhdin was released on the condition that he appear in court, where his administrative case is scheduled to be heard on July 17, Mediazona reported.
